Sidlingu 2012 Sandalwood Film Review

STORY –
‘Sidlingu’ is the sordid tale of a youngster who is hit with bad luck in life at every stage. At the young age Sidlingu (Yogish) is seduced by teacher Andalamma (Suman Ranganath) and the accidental sexual happiness is short lived. Sidlingu loses his parents and he moves out of his village to Srirangapatna for living. His fascination in life is to own a vintage car. He finds one such in Srirangapatna from Asadulla Baig (Sridhar) and he has to adjust Rs.60000 for it. For securing loan he accidentally meets Mangala (Ramya) and that leads to friendship. He obtains the vintage car for him on one condition that the car owner Asadulla Baig should be taken in that car on his death.

Now Sidlingu doing petty job doing service to Mangala one fine day dashingly says he wants to marry her. Mangala not expected this from Sidlingu. She does not reply because she is in confusion.

At this point of time Asadulla Baig son arrives on the scene for more complications. Serving the prison for a few years Asadulla Baig son creates further ruckus as the car and will paper of his father is with Sidlingu. Knowing the innocence of Sidlingu a cop helps him with an idea that lands him in trouble.

Sidlingu, cop and Mangala take on the son of Asadulla Baig but in the shootout Mangala dies. That obviously makes Sidlingu lose all interest in life.

ANALYSIS –
First time director Vijayaprasad is not caught up with a convincing story. Everything is in parts and not unites to a story. The case of Andalamma played by Suman Ranganath with Sidlingu in his adolescent age is not supportive to the story except that at a young age Sidlingu had a sexual happiness.

This particular incident further does not enhance but Sidlingu admits this when he proposes for Mangala. Owning a car is the small ambition and doing something bigger is not in the thought of the protagonist is the limitation of the film too.

When the biography of a director Vijayaprasad fits into a larger perspective should be seen. Just a few incidents should not burn the few crores of the producer is what director Vijayaprasad should have learnt first.

Yogish has image of a good dialogue delivery hero with casual and sincerity on screen. That is the only plus point of this film and it appeals to the youths who are masses of this young sensation.

There are many ridiculous situations in the second half that takes a long yawn. The film surrounding a car when it is stolen with the help of a cop and again it is restored to the original owner – the situations related to it are so inconsequential.

Instead of giving importance to car had the protagonist Sidlingu given preference to lead a life with Mangala the life could have been happier.

There are a very few characters in the film. The storyline is also very limited in nature. The existence of Ramya with no song and Yogish getting priority when he owns the car is not in tune with the commercial aspects. This is the film with no song for Ramya the sandalwood queen.

PERFORMANCES –
Yogish is the winner in dialogues and casual approach from film to film continues. Ramya is a great performer and there is nothing much for her to hold mirror to her ability. Wearing specks it seems she is uncomfortable. For what reasons she accepted this film ‘Sidlingu’ is the question that remains in the mind.

There is no scope for acting to Suman Ranganath. This character itself could have been avoided and told via dialogues.

Television actor Sridhar in the role of Asadulla Baig and Achyuth Rao as cop are at ease. Girija Lokesh senior actress gives good support.

TECHNICALITY –
The cinematography by Sugnan is very appealing because of the color scheming he has done for various occasions. The gray color at some places gives a good feel of olden days. In the song of Sidlingu with a car Achchu Mechchu….camera work is pretty good.

Anoop Seelin is the second winner of this film with some modern day songs. Elle Nodu Manase...is the loveliest of all the tunes of Anoop Seelin.

Animation technique for the title card is also a new area of work by this ‘Sidlingu’ team.

Last but not the Least – Debutant should take of producers bank balance.
