Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu 2012 Hindi Movie Review(First On Net)

Friday, February 10, 2012

The latest offering from Dharma Productions ‘Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu’ is an official remake of Hollywood’s hit flick ‘What Happens In Vegas’. However the filmmakers have very cunningly taken just the central plot of the film and tweaked it to suit the Indian sensibilities.

Story:

The film revolves around two central characters Rahul (Imran Khan) and Riana (Kareena Kapoor). Rahul is jobless and is basically tired of his oh-so-ordinary and not-so-happening life. One fine night he meets a full of life hair stylist Riana who is completely opposite to him. They get drunk and spend the night roaming around the city. The next day they discover that while in high spirits they get hitched to each other and decide to break the unannounced marriage. But the next 14 days of their life changes them forever and that’s what the whole film is all about.

Analysis:

At first the film would appear like the regular rom com that have flooded Bollywood in past so many years but allow us to tell you that the film stands out in the league. The film has a soul that will sweep you off your feet and touch your heart at the same time. Director Shakun Batra has done the job of helming the film with ease. He knows what he is doing and the confidence just perfectly reflects in the film.

Performances:

Though Kareena and Imran’s pairing was touted to be odd but yet they are successful in winning your hearts as an onscreen couple. Kareena’s vivacious character reminds you of her bubbly character as ‘Geet’ in ‘Jab we Met’ and in this one too she will leave you in awe of her. Imran as a geeky character too has performed decently well and with this flick he has proved that there’s more to him than what meets the eye.

Technicalities:

Music by Amit Trivedi is just soothing and enjoyable. It stays with you even after the film is over and just provides the right amount of drama at regular intervals. The title track and ‘Aunty ji’ are the peppy number which gives you some foot tapping moments. And then there are soft numbers like Gubbare Gubbare and Aahatein that just touches your hearts and souls.

All in all the film is a sweet flick and a perfect treat to shower yourself and your loved ones on this Valentine. Go out and have a good time with ‘Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu’ as this one is too sweet to be missed.

Plus Points:  Imran – Kareena pairing, music

Minus Points:  Gives a déjà vu feeling

Final Word:  Perfect treat this Valentine, has a feel good factor

Cast: Kareena Kapoor, Imran Khan, Ratna Pathak Shah, Ram Kapoor and Boman Irani
Music: Amit Trivedi
Producer: Karan Johar, Hiroo Johar, Ronnie Screwvala
Director: Shakun Batra

Agneepath 2012 Hindi Movie Review(First On Net)

Thursday, January 26, 2012

Agneepath Movie Review: Mukul Anand created a classic that is yet immortal in people’s memory, here is Karan Malhotra paying a respectable homage to ‘Agneepath’. Though comparisons are bound to happen, we suggest watching the film without any preconceptions and thoughts about the original and you are sure to love it.

Story:

Master Dinanath Chauhan (Chetan Pandit), a principled man who wants the best for his village Mandwa. Whereas, Kancha (Sanjay Dutt) wants to illegally grow cocaine in the village by fooling and ruling over the poor villagers. Now, he eliminates his only hindrance, Master Chauhan by controversially hanging him in front of his pregnant wife Suhasini (Zarina Wahab) and his 10-year old son Vijay (Hrithik Roshan /Arish Bhiwandiwala). Vijay comes to Mumbai with his mother with only one aim, to get Mandwa back from Kancha. He walks the ‘Agneepath’ (path of fire) that his father has taught him and wins back the trust of his people.

Analysis:

Karan Malhotra’s version of Amitabh Bachchan’s 1990 classic has definitely been tweaked from the original. The basic plot is the same but each member of the team has worked hard to create an original film and have partially succeeded. If Yash Johar’s ‘Agneepath’ is still remembered, Karan Johar’s too will have its own space in the history of Indian cinema.

Performance:

Hrithik Roshan convincingly plays his part. Though he doesn’t look as grand as Big B, his aggression was quite evitable on his face and eyes. Priyanka Chopra looked cute and did a decent job. Rishi Kapoor should be commended for his immense versatility as he is par excellence. Sanjay Dutt looks exceedingly scary and performs par expectations. He impeccably portrays evil. Warina Zahab and Chetan Pandit are decent enough. Also, worth mentioning is the fastastic work by child actor Arish Bhiwandiwala. It seemed as if Hrithik had watched his performance before starting shooting for the film and has improvised on it. ‘Chikni Chameli’ is absolutely entertaining and Katrina Kaif has given it her 100 per cent but casting fails here as a half Indian cannot be portrayed as a Mahrashtrian as she did not suit it.

Technicalities:

Malhotra has earlier assisted Karan Johar with his projects and makes a promising debut. He has a long way to go. He has put in the necessary masala elements in a high octane action drama. Sabu Cyril as a production designer is a master at his craft. Cinematography and picturization are good. Characterization slightly suffers as compared to the original. Ajay-Atul’s music as well as the background score complements the film. Dialogues have been taken good care of, especially the ones that Sanjay Dutt mouths.

Positives:

- Performances
- Chikni Chameli

Negatives:

- Too much violence to handle

Final Word: A must watch

Starring: Hrithik Roshan, Sanjay Dutt, Rishi Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra
Banner: Dharma Productions
Music: Ajay-Atul
Producer: Karan Johar, Hiroo Johar
Director: Karan Malhotra

Ghost 2012 Hindi Movie Review(First On Net)

Friday, January 13, 2012

Shiney Ahuja’s comeback vehicle that was meant to establish him as a good actor completely disappoints. A completely wrong choice to make a comeback, Shiney is sure going to regret it.

Story:
Two doctors, a nurse and a ward boy are brutally killed by a supernatural force in City hospital. A detective Vijay Singh (Shiney Ahuja) is called upon to investigate on the case. Events and situations unfold and all the murders are linked to Vijay’s personal life. Amidst this there is a love story of the detective with Doctor Suhani (Sayali Bhagat) from the same hospital who apparently is the first one to find out about the murders.

Analysis:
A comedy yet again as expected in the name of Horror, ‘Ghost’ is a complete non-entertainer. There is nothing that the film can boast about in its favour. The love story injected totally makes no sense and the director seems amateurish in her craft. Shiney Ahuja is no doubt a good actor but could not do much in this film that was weak in its basics.

Performances:
Shiney was decent but not very good in the film. Sayali Bhagat who was last seen in Emraan Hashmi’s ‘Train’ was just okay with her role not being that strong. Newbie Julia was decent too. The other doctors in the film strictly could not act. There was a major flaw in the casting. Sandip Soparrkar makes a guest appearance in a song and looks quite good.

Technicalities:
There were major glitches in the editing of the film with the songs and some scenes ending abruptly. The background score was squeaky and irritating. The location though is beautiful the cinematographer could not capture it with grace. The special effects used were sloppy.

Plus Points:

- None

Minus Points:
- Technicalities
- Casting
- Direction

Final Word: Not even a once watch

Cast: Deep Raj Rana, Tej Sapru, Shiney Ahuja, Julia Bliss, Sayali Bhagat
Producer: Bharat Shah
Director: Puja Jatinder Bedi

Chaalis Chauraasi 2012 Bollywood Film Review

Chaalis Chaurasi boasts of a talented star cast that includes Naseeruddin Shah, Kay Kay Menon, Ravi Kishen and Atul Kulkarni but sadly enough only big names in the industry have mass appeal, and movies of these kind of star cast fail to get much attention from the audience. But there are films that have been recognized because of good content that includes films like ‘Udaan’ and ‘Hazaaron Khwaishen Aisi’. So does Chaalis Chauraasi fall in their league? Will it make a mark in Bollywood that is dominated by Super stars. Well, the film does have an interesting plot and is gripping in parts. But there are a lot of sequences that are not required and seem out of place in the film; and that is what makes it an average film.

Story:
Pankaj Suri aka Sir (Naseeruddin Shah), Bobby (Atul Kulkarni), Kay Kay Menon (Pinto) and Shakti (Ravi Kishen) are all unintended petty criminals and plan a big robbery. The four of them aspire to make a big move and getaway with their criminal lives. The plan is to pretend being policemen and raiding a fake currency note godown created temporarily at a village near Mumbai.

Analysis:
The film begins on a very interesting note portraying good camaraderie between the lead characters. The characterization and the background of the characters is intriguing. The only flaw about the first half is the unnecessary song and dance sequences injected. However, the second half confuses us of being of another genre. The director himself seemed confused if he is making a thriller or a comedy. The climax fight sequence looks utterly stupid and. The makers have tried to put in all the necessary masala and so the film despite of having a talented star cast fails to impress.

Performances:
There is no doubt about the acting prowess of the lead stars of the film. From Naseer to Atul to Menon to Ravi Kissen, each actor performs his best. Their comic timing too is worth applauding. Shweta Bhardawaj added for glamour makes no mark. Zakir Hussain is decent. The rest of the supporting cast is good too.

Technicalities:
The script fails especially in the second half and can be said as the biggest flaw of the film. The music is absolutely below average and the songs were not required. Some camera angles were interesting however the cinematography and screenplay average. The film definitely has some good dialogues and the star casts’ delivery makes the dialogues even more interesting.

Plus points:
- Acting
- Dialogues

Minus points:
- Bad Script
- confused genre
- below average music

Final Word: A good star cast wasted.

Cast: Naseeruddin Shah, Kay Kay Menon, Atul Kulkarni, Ravi Kissen
Music: Lalit Pandit
Producer: Sachin Awasthee, Uday Shetty, Anuya Mhaiskar
Director: Hriday Shetty

Players 2012 Bollywood Film Review

Monday, January 9, 2012

Players 2012 Movie Review: A couple of weeks back, Bollywood churned out one of the best thrillers of 2011, Farhan Akhtar’s ‘Don 2’ and the new year 2012 starts with Abbas Mustan’s action thriller ‘Players’ that is the official remake of Hollywood flick ‘The Italian Job’. But alas, there is a humoungous difference between the two. While one is intelligently intriguing, the other disappoints with many loop holes.

Story:
The team of best players in the world (incidentally all Indians ;) ) the biggest game planner and voice modulator Ronnie Mascarrenhus (Abhishek Bachchan), charmer and an automobile expert Ria (Bipasha Basu), bomb expert Bilal (Sikander Kher), Magician (Bobby Deol), Face and makeup expert Sunny Mehra (Omi Vaidya) and world’s best hacker Spider (Neil Nitin Mukesh) come together for the biggest robbery of the century, looting Romanian Gold from Russion police who are transporting it back to Romania. One man is the captain of the ship, Victor Dada (Vinod Khanna) who guides them through and he has a daughter Naina Barganza (Sonam Kapoor) who strictly wants her father to lead an honest life. The robbery still happens but one of them turns out to be traitor. To find out what happens next, watch the film.

Analysis:
There were much expectations from the film that falls flat with the director duo taking too many cinematic liberties. The train robbery makes up to be an intriguing and thrilling sequence but that’s about it. Nothing else, not even the climax of the film impresses. The comic sequences that included Johny Lever’s foreign wife and kids commuting in shhuddh hindi and talking about satya Narayan katha; Omi’s clichéd comic dialogues fail to create much humour. The film gets quite predictable while reaching towards the climax. What’s stupid is that after a huge government robbery there is no intervention depicted by the Russian intelligence or any police. The players are doing whatever they want without any trace of the cops.

Performances:
Abhishek Bachchan is monotonous just like he is in other films. The directors could have presented him in a better manner. Bipasha Basu is decent enough and looks good. Sonam Kapoor can’t act but looks exceptionally stunning. Bobby Deol is completely wasted. Sikander Kher and Omi Vaidya are strictly okay. Neil Nitin Mukesh and Vinod Khanna steal the show with a good performance. Johny Lever is not funny anymore.

Technicalities:
Abbas Mustan has given Bollywood some surprising hits like ‘Humraaz’, ‘Ajnabee’ and ‘Race’, but ‘Players’ is a sheer disappointment by the duo. They characterization too is not up to the mark. The music is average and the dialogues do not leave an impact. The locations however are visually appealing and picturization is good.

Plus Points:
- Neil Nitin Mukesh
- Vinod Khanna
- Picturesque locations

Minus Points:
- too many loopholes
- direction

Final Word: Watch Don 2 second time instead.
