Shakthi 2012 Sandalwood Film Review

STORY –
This is a revenge saga told in high voltage style with action taking the center stage. ‘Shakthi’ (Malashri) is a power house. No men can match this lady. She can make the opponents fly from her hits. She comes as a servant in the house of Anjanappa and soon gets a good status as the astrologer of the house predicts ‘Shakthi’ is nothing but Chamundeswari. But there is problem in the house as daughter of Anjanappa – Swathi (Radhika) is in love with Vijay (Kiran Srinivas) who is not a good match for Anjanappa.

Shakthi helps lovers and runaway from her master’s house. In the chase Shakthi meets with an accident and admitted to the hospital for serious injury. It is at this hospital when the attackers surround the hospital the senior cop explains who is ‘Shakthi’. The film moves to the flashback. Shakthi is nothing but Chamundi IPS officer with great strength. She has efficiency in her work and book the PWD minister Betaggappa (Sharat Lohitashva) for the death of thirty children. She sentences him to the prison causes more worry for Chamundi.

Chamundi is posted to Rayadurga that is managed by disgruntled elements and Chamundi takes on three violent people ruling the roost.

It is at this place the cunningness of the feared lords of Rayadurga, Chamundi faces a big fall from the height after she is beaten on her head. Chamundi is saved by the people on the other side of the river and she is in amnesia but power is intact in her. She works as a Coolie in the market and her power brings her to Anjanappa house.

When Chamundi is saved in the hospital she gets back her old memory and it in the third avatar she goes on a rampage.

ANALYSIS –
Newcomer Anil Kumar has given a loaded action film for B and C centers. With Malashri in action image this film is good for the masses. There is so much of violence and bloodshed, cutting heads and piercing from knife shows the fascination of this producer Ramu.

What Anilkumar has not been able to identify from the previous films of Malashri are. The role revolves around ‘Kannadadha Kiran Bedi’ and partially the film is nothing other than ‘Sarathi’ of the last year of Challenging star Darshan.

The power via high voltage action in this film from Malashri is equal to one Darshan and one Sudeep film. She has done so much of stunts and the mayhem is something not seen so much regular action hero films.

The commonality in Shakthi and Sarathi is not just the letter ‘S’ in both the film titles. The admiration to goddess Chamundeswari is similar in both the films. The flash back scenes of young boy running away who later become a hero in ‘Sarathi’ but it is small girl in ‘Shakthi’ running away for life seeing her father killings.

When Malashri Kannada film ‘Kannadadha Kiran Bedi’ and Sudeep ‘Veera Madhakari’ at a time a few years ago such similarities were found in the content.

The attempt is fabulous in action scenes but crudity should have been curtailed. Today with or without ‘A’ certificate the tiny tots also barge inside the theatre. The vengeance fed to the young brains is the costly mistake the cinema is doing to the society.

Ramu International banner known for action in multifold is OK. When it comes to dialogues there is no censor to certain words in this film ‘Shakthi’. For example the police officer says ‘Nin Amman’. This is the foul language not expected from Ramu banner.

Apparently Ramu’s ‘Muthinantha Hendathi’ (Malashri) utters such words. At one point of time the discerning audience would feel is it enough if the Regional Censor board gives U/A certificate and just keep quiet?

There is not much of difference for Malashri from her Durgi, Chamundi, Kannadadha Kiran Bedi films. The speed and voltage is more and the language deteriorates in this film ‘Shakthi’.

What is hitting to the nerves is every character in the film speaking loudly. Such loudness is seen in non Kannada language films. Such breakings are also not found in Kannada films. Just by one shot ten people roll up and Malashri walks cool underneath is like a cartoon show.

Is it necessary for the maker to give sound and effect? What has happened in Shakthi is nothing other than it. For every scene there is sound and loud noise.

A double filter coffee is a must after watching this film because of loudness. The film with deep concern to cops profession and people life look very ancient.

PERFORMANCE –
Malashri wins this time in both action and dialogue delivery. The plumb Malashri has not reduced for this film. She has the personality of two tummy police officers. It seems the last resort for Malashri is this action cinema in her future professional career. Struggle is there and she gets whistle for her dialogues in ‘Shakthi’.

Soujanya as a mad girl in the film throughout is quite impressive. Sayyaji Shindhe dialogue is a big pain. Ashish Vidyarthi has a decent role. The rabble rousers Avinash, Sharat Lohitashva, Hema Chaudhary, Manoj have strained their voice box too much.

TECHNICALITY –
Technically this film is superb as loads of action scenes are appealing even though it is beyond imagination. The camera work especially and editing worked out very well for this film.

This film is partially made with the strength of sound engineer. The noise of this film lent in the recording room is stunning and required for such high voltage scenes.

Action directors – Palaniraj, Thriller Manju, Mass Madha, Ravi Verma and Ram Lakshman have given stunning portions to the action lovers.

Last but not the Least – The sober name of Malashri could be changed as ‘Durgasri’ now. Durga is her original name.
Cast – Malashri, Avinash, Radhika Gandhi, Kiran Srinivas, Soujanya, Sharat Lohitashva, Manoj, Ashis Vidyarthi, Hema Chaudhary, Sayyaji Shindhe, Sadhu Kokila, Kurigalu Pratap and others.
Cinematography – Rajesh K
Music – Vardhan
Producer – Ramu
Screenplay, Dialogues and Direction – Anilkumar.
IT IS POWER PACKED – Rating 3/5
